For those of you who haven't heard yet, Nemosoft Unv has discontinued
development of the Linux Philips webcam driver (PWC) and has asked that
the driver be removed from the Linux kernel tree. See the old PWC webpage
for more information:
http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/
If you're curious, the ultimatum is here:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/8/24/278
This is unfortunate, as PWC was the most complete and usable USB webcam
driver available for Linux.
At this point I strongly recommend avoiding USB webcams altogether and
only using Firewire webcams or frame grabber cards. The lack of a
standard specification for video over USB makes the market too volatile to
depend on any kind of Linux support for USB webcams. -Nathan
